Ray Bruce**

Ray L. Bruce, 58, of Winfield passed away Jan. 7, 2009, at his home.

Memorials have been established for Winfield Isle of Lights and Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through Miles funeral home.

Ray was born July 18, 1950, in Roscoe County, Mo., to Ray and Lena (Huff) Bruce. He was raised in Roscoe County, El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Winfield.

Ray worked at Albertson's IGA in Winfield.

He and Peggy J. Shields married on Dec. 26, 1971, in Winfield, where they made their home. He worked at Winfield State Hospital & Training Center as a licensed mental health technician II until 1985 when failing health forced him to retire.

Ray was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Winfield. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, garage sales and auctions, and traveling, especially to Branson, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors includes his wife, Peggy Bruce, of the home; his son, Jason Bruce, and wife, Aubrey, Okmulgee, Okla.; his daughter, Jana Bruce, and companion, Mark Butcher, Wichita; his mother, Lena Bruce, Winfield; his stepmother: Charlotte Bruce, Atlanta; his brothers, Garry Bruce, and wife, Virginia, Enid, Okla., and Joe Bruce, and wife, Tonya, and Jay Bruce, all of Atlanta; his sisters, Joyce Haines, and husband Paul, El Dorado Springs; his grandchildren, Alexander, Abigail, Andrew, Mark II, Journey, Maximos and Macarthur; and a host of nieces and nephews.
